Choropleth maps are thematic maps based on predefined aerial
units; areas are distinctly colored or shaded to represent classed values of a
particular phenomenon or variable. Some examples of a variable include
population density or political affiliation. It makes it easy to visualize how
the measured variable changes across and area. The map above is considered a
choropleth map. The group of data is organized as a ratio value; a graded color
series is used to show least intensity to most intense. This map shows the
percent of people who are Hispanic or Latino per county in Florida.
