Cartograms


Cartograms are maps created by substituting a different standard of measurement for distance or area. The geometry or space of the map is distorted in order to convey the information of this alternate variable. The map above is an example of a cartogram that displays the gross domestic product. America, Europe, and Japan dominate this map while Africa is barely seen.
