Cartographic animations are the application of animation, either computer or video, to add a temporal component to a map displaying changes in some dimension. The map above uses cartographic animation to display hurricane Sandy. Cartographic animations are compilations of 2D and 3D imagery used to visualize aspects of atmospheric phenomena, such as a hurricane.
